Heading North on the Alaskan Highway

Yesterday was our first day on the official Alaskan Highway. For the first time on this trip I really feel like we're leaving civilization.  We've been on the road for about three months and except for the last week we've been in places close enough to Portland that we may consider driving to them for a weeks vacation.  The first thing that strikes me as we set off yesterday is the shear distance we're going to cover.  We've come a long way north and we're still looking at 3-4 days of mostly driving.

After beeing shocked by spring weather in Revelstoke last week (we went running, not skiing!), we high tailed it north.  We've been at Powder King in Northern BC since Monday afternoon and enjoyed a generous dumping of snow (detailed post to come - I swear!).  We could have easily stayed at the King for a bit longer, but in order to chase winter, we had to keep moving.

Where are they?
So, from Powder King we drove to Dawson Creek, the official start of the Alaskan Highway and then drove another few hours north to a place called Shepherds Inn.  The folks at the Inn were kind enough to let us park in front of their Inn for the night.  At least I thought they were kind untill the sun went down and the diesel trucks pulled in and idled all night..  Anyway at least I was able to pick up the wireless from the Inn.
