Resort Parking Lots & Leveling
Resort lots are always slanted, ice or snow covered and are sometimes crowded none of which make it easy to setup and get your RV level. Here are a few things we try to remember when we're camping out in the lot:
- Don't be disappointed, check first. A lot of resorts don't allow overnight parking and at the very least most ask that you park in designated areas. Check out RV Skier guide.
- Arrive at night. It's much easier to manuever and setup in a big empty lot.
- Stay away from the cat shack/maintenance roads etc. It is much easier to sleep without heavy equipment rolling by your trailer all night. For nights when it's the last spot available, bring ear plugs. You wouldn't believe how loud snow plows are at 4:00AM.
- If you have a trailer it's much easier to level front to back than side to side. Try to park parallel to a hill not perpendicular as much as is possible. We have had more then our share of experiences with side to side leveling all of which were time consuming.
- Use blocks under leveling pads, we use scrap wood we had around the house, to avoid your rig becoming one with the ice that collects underneath it while you're parked. Carry a hammer to remove the blocks from the ice when you're packing up.
- For the sake of the relationship with your travel partner and your neighbors especially upon late arrivals, get yourselves the hand held walkie talkies to assist in clear communication when backing into a spot.
